I am thinking of Pogo, "we have met the enemy and he is us," as I watch what's happening here in the states. I wonder if this is how a majority of Germans felt as they watched Hitler come to power in their country, promising to make Germany great again.
I suspect that that after the chaos of the Weimar Republic, it was almost impossible to generalise about a majority view in Germany. Indeed, it was factionalism which gave Hitler the tools he needed to bust open the door to government. There was definitely at least a large minority delighted to see him move fast and break things. Especially heads.
US democracy is a very different beast and these are very different times, don’t you think? Musk gives me chills more than Mr Tangerine Man to be honest. It will be an interesting four years, at any rate. (Only four?) I think we’re in uncharted waters here.
A fragile thing, democracy, I had no idea how fragile, when I was younger.
I agree. I was astonished that people would surrender it for a floor show. My suspicion is that there's a plan to pull Trump with the 25th Amendment to pave the way for Vance. He's a stuffed shirt, so will do whatever Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, etc. want him to do.
Musk is why we excluded foreign nationals from leading our government. Nobody even knows what a South Afrikaner is … maybe Spalding Gray … but so far they seem to be white supremests who follow some very alien philosophies and have no interest in American ideals and history.
