A lovely piece Steve.

You'd think we'd learn, wouldn't you. But the world is teetering yet again.

My great grandfather was in the light horse in Egypt. Thankfully, he made it out.

It seems that it only takes a generation or two for lessons to be unlearned, doesn’t it? We send these very young adults off to war, then they spend a lifetime picking up the pieces. Such an awful waste.

I only discovered the story of my great uncle’s battalion while writing this. It brought Remembrance Day into a new focus.

Ernie's story made me sad.

Before the war, he was the life of the party (fun-loving, flirtatious, and outgoing). But after returning, he’s a changed man. Quiet, serious, and seemingly distant from the person he once was. A common plight amongst veterans. I always appreciate stories of resilience especially these days Steve

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Neela. Yes, there were many men like Ernie who didn’t have a dramatic war, but still came back changed.
